Safari w Zoo Ostrava znów czynne!
Po zimowej przerwie goście ostrawskiego ogrodu zoologicznego znów mogą korzystać z przejazdów kolejką Safari Expres, która porusza się bezpośrednio wśród zwierząt na trzech rozległych wybiegach zajmujących powierzchnię około sześciu hektarów. Czas przejazdu wynosi od 15 do 20 minut. Trasa zwiedzania rozpoczyna się w Afryce (wybieg żyraf Rothschilda i elandów), a dalej prowadzi przez Persję (wybieg onagerów perskich oraz danielów mezopotamskich) do Indii (wybieg jeleni aksis, garn oraz nilgau). Safari zaprasza codziennie od godz. 10:00 do 18:00. Przystanek początkowy znajduje się pod wybiegiem żyraf.
Tegoroczna nowość
Na tegoroczny sezon przygotowaliśmy dla gości Safari nowość - na Wybiegu Indii już niedługo będzie można zobaczyć dwie samice bawołu domowego. Bawół domowy wywodzi się od dzikiego bawołu indyjskiego (Buubalus arnee) zwanego także arnim. W odróżnieniu od całkowicie wytępionego przodka bydła domowego – tura ((Bos primigenius) bawoły indyjskie ciągle występuja na izolowanych obszarach Indii i Azji Południowo-Wschodniej. Są one jednak zagrożone wyginięciem (Endangered). Bawół domowy oddziedziczył po przodkach krępą budowę ciała (waży nawet 900 kg) i zamiłowanie do wody, w której potrafi spędzać całe dnie. Udomowione w Indiach około 3000 lat bawoły obecnie stanowią jeden z najważniejszych gatunków zwierząt domowych strefy tropikalnej i subtropikalnej. Według najbardziej optymistycznych szacunków żyje na wolności zaledwie 4000 dzikich bawołów indyjskich, natomiast liczbę bawołów domowych szacuje się na 160 mln sztuk.
W trosce o zapewnienie komfortu zwierząt lub z przyczyn technicznych kursowanie Safari Expresu może zostać bez uprzedzenia wstrzymane.
